How Cast Steel Gate Valves Work

What to Specify Before Ordering
- Valve size and connection standard.
- Design and operating pressure and temperature.
- Fluid, including any corrosive constituents or solids.

- Manual, gear-operated or actuated operation.
- Required design, inspection and documentation standards.
Nominal pressure or class should be checked with the selected material’s pressure-temperature rating. A class designation is not a single pressure that applies at every temperature.

Cast steel gate valves are commonly considered for process and utility isolation in oil and gas, petroquímico, power generation and water systems. The suitable model depends on the complete duty, rather than the industry name alone.
For steam, assess pressure and temperature together. For chemical fluids, evaluate body, recortar, packing and gasket compatibility. For solids or slurry, consider whether a different valve geometry is more suitable.

Apply lubrication only to the locations and with the products specified for that valve.
