How Cast Steel Gate Valves Work

What to Specify Before Ordering
- Valve size and connection standard.
- Design and operating pressure and temperature.
- Fluid, including any corrosive constituents or solids.
- Test, trim and sealing materials.

- Required design, inspection and documentation standards.
Nominal pressure or class should be checked with the selected material’s pressure-temperature rating. A class designation is not a single pressure that applies at every temperature.

Cast steel gate valves are commonly considered for process and utility isolation in oil and gas, petrolkémiai, power generation and water systems. The suitable model depends on the complete duty, rather than the industry name alone.
For steam, assess pressure and temperature together. For chemical fluids, evaluate body, trim, packing and gasket compatibility. For solids or slurry, consider whether a different valve geometry is more suitable.
Where regular flow adjustment is required, compare an appropriate gömbszelep or control valve instead of using an isolation gate valve partially open.

Plan inspection around the valve duty and the manufacturer’s maintenance instructions. Check external leakage, stem operation, packing condition and the required operating clearance.
Before opening a valve body or removing it from the pipeline, qualified personnel must isolate the equipment, control hazardous energy, release trapped pressure and verify the safe condition under the site’s approved procedure. Apply lubrication only to the locations and with the products specified for that valve.
